Dear CPU Scorekeeper

I am about to upgrade and change my motherboard and CPU, but need some help deciding which is the best CPU to choose out of the AMD K6-2 3DNow! or the Celeron-400.

Can you give me any advice?

- - Andy, September 1999

For a direct comparison between the average relative performance of Intel's Celeron-400 and the various speeds of AMD's K6-2 series (or any other PC CPUs), go straight to our CPU Comparator. You will see that, if you are running mostly business applications and in general use, the K6-2s at 350MHz and above will beat out the Celeron at a comparable price.

Where the Celeron may shine over K6-2s at the same clock speed is in high-performance gaming. Video-intensive, fast-actions games require a fast floating-point calculator. In this area, the Celeron is the clear choice.
