Dear CPU Scorekeeper

I was reading the CPU Comparator. On the list it states that the AMD K6-2 has a 1024kb cache. Is this true for the K6-2 400?

I have this chip on a Micronics C-200 mainboard, and my cache only goes to 512kB. I have 64Mb PC100 SDRAM. The bus speed is set to100Mhz. Is there anyway to improve the cache on this system?

The L2 cache size listed on our AMD K6-2 Statistics page is the maximum size that the processor will support. The size of the cache you actually have is totally dependent upon what is provided on the motherboard.

The Micronics C-200 mainboard has a built-in L2 cache that is fixed at 512kB. Improving the cache size is not an option and would not significantly increase your system speed for most applications.

If you are looking for more speed, the Micronics C-200 will support AMD's K6-III processor with a BIOS upgrade. Going to a K6-III/450, as you can see from the CPU Comparator, would increase your processor speed by at least 50%.
